1st Step – investing in our future and our people

As a growing business, 1st Step Solutions understands its commitment and obligations to invest in newcomers to our industry, as well as providing ongoing development opportunities for existing members of staff, and throughout June we have been delivering new opportunities for both.

Investing in People

Whilst it is always important to bring in new talent to your business, it is important to understand what is required to continually develop the skillset of our existing staff, some of whom have worked for us since 2004, when we opened the doors.  We have recently set up a more formal training route for our staff, whilst avoiding the temptation to train robots in a one-size-fits-all approach.

Our staff undertake regular annual and mid-year Personal Development Reviews, to set their SMART targets and goals, but in order to develop, these meetings only serve half of their purpose.  Day-to-day management identifies the training and development needs, and our business tries to react to what is required for each individual to make them tick, to our benefit.

Stuart Wallis, E&IR Manager, says “Autonomy is what is getting the best out of our team, and what attracts new people to work for us.  We see this as part of investing in the package of benefits of working for 1st Step – something we always look to review and improve.  We have other benefits in the pipeline – but only that suit what our colleagues need and want.”
