1st Step becomes a Lighthouse Club Company Supporter
1st Step Solutions are extremely proud to have recently become a company supporter of the Lighthouse Club, a charity run by the construction industry, for the construction industry. The Lighthouse Club offers support to those struggling with mental and physical health issues along with those struggling with financial challenges. A devastating statistic we learnt is the construction industry loses two people a day to suicide and we wanted to show our support for the fantastic work the Lighthouse Club are doing to try and offer as much backing to them as possible.
What is the Lighthouse Club?
For those who are not familiar with the charity, The Lighthouse Club believe no construction worker or their family should be alone in a crisis. The charity exists to improve the welfare and well-being of our construction community in the UK and Ireland. The Lighthouse Club have developed a significant portfolio of services to help supporters deliver the best possible support to their workforce and their families.
The Lighthouse Club has also developed free support services for anyone in construction to access and we have joined them on their mission to:
Reduce construction industry suicides.
Improve workforce welfare and well-being for this generation and the next.
Keep our key support services free for everyone in our industry to access.
What support services do the Lighthouse Club offer?
There is all manner of support offered, but the starting point is identifying a difficulty and the below is available to all to help that happen.
- 24/7 Confidential Helpline Available to everyone on site including subcontractors, agency workers and allied trades. The Construction Industry Helpline covers all aspects of emotional, physical and financial well-being and is available in many different languages through the charity’s partnership with translation services. - Self-support mobile app, a free downloadable wellbeing support app called ‘Construction Industry Helpline’ that covers all the aspects of wellbeing. The app is packed with information to learn about conditions, and how to develop coping strategies with signposting to over 3000 accredited organisations that provide support. It really is a ‘mate’ in your back pocket. Just search Construction Industry Helpline on the app store or on your Android device.
- Lighthouse Beacons Lighthouse Club have identified over 160 volunteer centres around the UK and Ireland where workers can drop in to meet like-minded people, socialise and talk. The Beacons are facilitated by individuals with lived experience and in this confidential environment, encourage those struggling with life problems to share their issues and if required, seek further help.
What support is available to candidates working via 1st Step Solutions Ltd?
In addition to the services Lighthouse offer to all within the construction industry, our support means that we can also arrange with our clients for the Lighthouse team to attend sites and deliver in-person toolbox talks and be available for informal chats on site, helping to spread the message that help is available and encourage those that might not otherwise make contact to do so.
