About the Role

1st Step Solutions are supporting an M&E Contractor who have an opportunity for a Senior Planner on a Permanent basis based in Heathrow.
Please note this is a hybrid model of work, 3 days in the office and 2 days at home
Role Purpose
We are looking for an accomplished Senior Planner with proven experience in planning and project controls, particularly within complex infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will bring strong organisational skills, sector expertise (Rail, Building Services, and related industries), and a track record of delivering high-quality outcomes. You will also play a key role in mentoring and developing junior planners, helping to strengthen the capability and effectiveness of our Planning Team.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain and update weekly health and safety hours in line with project requirements.
* Actively promote and adhere to our client's health, safety, and wellbeing policies.
* Provide planning and programming support to Project Managers and project teams.
* Identify risks, propose mitigation plans, and escalate issues when required.
* Ensure accurate progress updates are recorded and reported.
* Lead programme development and ensure compliance with the companies Project Delivery System (EPDS).
* Conduct quality reviews of programmes to maintain accuracy and integrity.
* Support reporting requirements including Earned Value Analysis (EVA).
* Align planning processes with contractual requirements and commercial obligations.
* Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring programme submissions are clear, accurate, and well-presented.
* Present programme updates confidently at client meetings.
* Drive improvements in planning processes, data analysis, and reporting.
* Support business reporting and audits with accurate analytics.
* Work closely with Commercial and Operations teams to align project delivery with business strategy.
* Support the Preconstruction team with tender programmes, risk reviews, and planning input when required.
* Mentor and support junior planners, promoting technical growth and best practice.
* Lead planning workshops and support team knowledge sharing.
* Act as Deputy where required and ensure suitable cover during periods of absence.
Competencies
* Clear, concise, and effective in both written and verbal communication.
* Strong understanding of CDM regulations and safe programme development.
* Experience across M&E disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health, Fire, Communications).
* Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 (with additional JCT or similar experience advantageous).
* Advanced Excel (S-curves, cost/unit analysis, EVA) and Primavera P6 expertise essential.
Experience & Credentials
* Extensive expertise in project planning and controls, with a proven track record in NEC contract management.
* Level 5 / HND in MEP, Construction Management, or related field desirable.
