What is the path to a management position in the firm you currently work for?

As a senior/principal mechanical design engineer, the chances are that's not an easy question to answer - many companies don't have a clear path, and you're left guessing, waiting for your lucky day!

If you've got ambitions for management, wouldn't it be better to join a company who wants you to have ambitions, and wants to help you get there?

I am working in partnership with a company like that. They have a long-established M&E design team in London and in other offices around the country, led by an experienced and knowledgeable Director. In London, the team is rapidly growing and the Director is approaching the point where he will not be able to lead the team on his own - so he is looking for the future management of the team as they continue to expand, and is appointing a senior or principal mechanical design engineer.

Are you an ambitious, talented senior or principal mechanical design engineer, very good with people and with strong commercial awareness? Have you developed your technical skill and ability to lead projects, deal with clients and architects etc. over a few years in the business, and now feel ready to develop your management skills? Then give me a call (contact details below) to discuss this opportunity.

You will come into the team as number 2 to the London director, and your duties would include:

* Mechanical Design & Specification;
* Surveying & Reporting;
* Lead projects - managing your own resources and deadlines, with support as necessary;
* Mentoring young mechanical engineers;
* Representing the firm at client meetings;
* Line management of junior engineers;
* Winning work, developing business, building relationships with existing and prospective clients

All the while you would be learning on the job to develop your leadership skills and management skills as well as business development and developing towards a future in a senior management position. The company is an LLP so long-term, owned by the partners, so the long-term possibilities are very interesting.
