This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced design professional who can take ownership of the M&E design process, coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to a consistently high standard.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the M&E design process across allocated projects.
- Manage design deliverables from concept and tender through detailed design, construction and handover.
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical design activities to ensure fully integrated solutions.
- Manage and coordinate external consultants, specialist subcontractors and suppliers.
- Review designs for technical compliance, buildability, value engineering and commercial viability.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, British Standards, Building Regulations and project-specific requirements.
- Lead design coordination meetings and ensure actions are effectively managed and closed out.
- Identify and manage design risks, interfaces, changes and technical queries.
- Work closely with project managers, quantity surveyors, commercial teams and site management.
- Provide technical support during pre-construction, procurement and construction phases.
- Review and approve technical submissions, specifications, drawings, calculations and design information.
- Ensure design information is issued in line with the project programme.
- Monitor design progress and report key risks, opportunities and issues to senior management.
- Support value engineering and identify opportunities to improve project efficiency and cost.
- Ensure appropriate design reviews, checks and approvals are undertaken.
- Assist with procurement by reviewing specialist subcontractor and supplier design proposals.
- Support the resolution of technical issues and RFIs during construction.
- Ensure effective commissioning, testing and handover requirements are incorporated into the design.
- Promote best practice, innovation and continuous improvement across the design function.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience in an M&E Design Manager, Building Services Design Manager or similar role within the construction or building services sector.
- Strong technical knowledge of both mechanical and electrical building services.
- Experience working for a main contractor, M&E contractor, specialist contractor or engineering consultancy.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants.
- Strong understanding of the design and construction process.
- Experience with design coordination, BIM and multidisciplinary interfaces.
- Good understanding of construction programmes and design deliverables.
- Knowledge of relevant British Standards, Building Regulations and industry legislation.
- Experience of working on commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, residential or other technically complex projects.
- Strong understanding of buildability and practical construction requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
