Supporting Future Talent: 1st Step Solutions at Beauchamps School Mock Interviews

At 1st Step Solutions, we are committed to supporting the next generation as they prepare to enter the world of work. At the end of January, we were proud to be invited to take part in the Year 10 Mock Interview Day at Beauchamps High School, with our representative Davinia Farr attending on behalf of the business.

Helping Students Gain Real Interview Experience

The mock interviews form part of Beauchamps High School’s structured careers programme designed to provide students with valuable, real-world experience. The initiative supports students through several key stages, including:

• Creating and developing their CVs.
• Taking part in one-to-one mock interviews with industry professionals.
• Participating in speed networking events.
• Completing a one-week work experience placement scheduled for July.

This programme gives students practical exposure to professional environments and helps build confidence ahead of making future career decisions.

Insight Into the Next Generation of Talent

Reflecting on the day, Davinia described the experience as both rewarding and inspiring:

“It was a really interesting and rewarding day taking part in mock interviews with Year 10 students. They were a fantastic group, and it was genuinely refreshing to hear their ambitions.”

One of the most notable observations was the shift in how young people are approaching their career pathways. While university has traditionally been seen as the default option, many students expressed a strong interest in apprenticeships and entering the workforce directly.

Advice for Young People Entering the Workplace

Speaking with students who are beginning to consider their career options at just 14 years old highlighted the challenges young people face today. Davinia shared what she felt was the most important piece of advice she could offer:

“Hard work always wins. Skills can be taught, knowledge can be learned, but work ethic is something you bring with you.”

This message reflects the core values we see every day within the industries we support.

Positive Feedback from Beauchamps High School

Following the event, Beauchamps High School shared their appreciation for the involvement of industry professionals. The school highlighted how valuable it is for students to experience one-to-one interviews with employers, giving them practical knowledge and helping reduce nerves around future interviews.

The feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing that they actually enjoyed the interview process once they overcame their initial nerves.
