Required: Sustainability and Social Values Manager

Office Location: Bristol

Employment: Permanent

Salary: Negotiable - depending on level of experience

Job Reference: SSV2507SD

A leading national M&E building services contractor is seeking a Sustainability and Social Values Manager to drive its environmental and social impact strategy across major UK projects.

This role will be central to delivering meaningful change across both the environmental and social agendas. The Sustainability and Social Values Manager will work with project teams, corporate functions, clients, and supply chain partners to deliver practical, measurable outcomes that support the company's commitment to sustainability leadership and community impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver environmental sustainability strategies across M&E projects in line with the company's Net Zero roadmap, ESG commitments, and overarching client goals.
  • Embed best practice in sustainable procurement, low-carbon design, circular economy, and resource efficiency across all stages of project delivery.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report on environmental performance - including energy consumption, carbon emissions, and material use - ensuring robust data capture and transparent reporting to both internal teams and the main client.
  • Coordinate and implement social value strategies aligned to client expectations, public sector procurement frameworks, and the Social Value Model.
  • Develop strong local partnerships with community groups, schools, training providers, and VCSEs to deliver impactful education, employment, wellbeing, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Track, evaluate, and report social value outcomes using recognised frameworks (e.g. TOMs, Social Value Model, bespoke client dashboards), with regular reporting cycles to the main client and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure full compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations, including sustainability and social value requirements in NEC4, S278, and other relevant contracts.
  • Collaborate across project teams, client bodies, and the wider supply chain to drive innovation and continuous improvement in sustainability performance.
  • Support external audits, certifications (e.g. ISO 14001, BREEAM, PAS 2080), and contribute to company-wide ESG disclosures, client ESG reporting, and corporate sustainability reporting cycles.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in delivering sustainability and social value programmes within the construction, engineering, or M&E sectors, ideally on complex infrastructure or public sector projects (e.g. healthcare, education, defence).
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems, carbon reduction strategies, net zero pathways, and social value frameworks(e.g. Social Value Model 2020, TOMs, JSVDS).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor, and report on social value and environmental outcomes, ensuring compliance with client KPIs, national frameworks, and internal ESG targets. Experience in quantifying impact, using recognised tools and digital platforms.
  • Track record of engaging diverse stakeholders, including supply chain, VCSEs, local authorities, and education providers to co-design and deliver inclusive, place-based social value initiatives - such as apprenticeships, local employment, training, and community investment.
  • Commercially aware and analytically strong, with the ability to translate ESG and SV initiatives into tangible business and client value, helping secure buy-in at all levels.
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator, able to build trusted relationships with delivery teams, senior leadership, and client-side stakeholders.
  • Purpose-led, proactive, and impact-driven, committed to embedding sustainability and social value as core pillars of project success and legacy.
