Mechanical Project Engineer

1st Step Solutions are supporting a leading UK mechanical engineering company who have an opportunity for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join their London team.

Role Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of Mechanical and HVAC projects across a range of construction environments.
The Project Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and management of mechanical and HVAC works, working closely with Project Managers, site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and clients. The role will involve supporting projects from pre-construction and procurement through installation, commissioning and handover, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the planning, coordination and delivery of Mechanical and HVAC projects from pre-construction through to completion.

• Manage and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and site activities to ensure works are delivered in accordance with the project programme.
• Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, schedules and other project documentation.
• Assist with the preparation and review of project programmes, ensuring key dates and milestones are achieved.
• Coordinate procurement activities, including material and equipment requirements, purchase orders and monitoring deliveries.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
• Attend and contribute to project, site and coordination meetings.
• Monitor the quality and progress of works, identifying and resolving technical or installation issues as they arise.
• Ensure works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, RAMS and relevant industry standards.
• Support the preparation and management of project documentation, including RFIs, technical submittals, progress reports and records.
• Assist with cost control by monitoring project expenditure, variations and procurement against agreed budgets.
• Coordinate inspections, testing and commissioning activities.
• Support the preparation of O&M information and project handover documentation.
• Ensure compliance with company Health & Safety procedures and site-specific requirements.
• Maintain effective communication with the wider project team and provide regular updates on progress, risks and outstanding actions.
• Identify potential project risks, delays or commercial issues and escalate these to the Project Manager as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Previous experience within a Project Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Building Services Engineer or similar construction-based role.
• Experience working on Mechanical and/or HVAC projects.
• Good understanding of mechanical building services installations and construction processes.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings, specifications and project documentation.
• Experience coordinating subcontractors and suppliers.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a construction environment.
• Relevant Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or construction qualification desirable.
• CSCS or relevant industry competency card desirable.
• SMSTS or SSSTS desirable.
