Mechanical Project Manager

1st Step Solutions are supporting a leading UK mechanical engineering company who have an opportunity for a Mechanical Project Manager to join their London team.

Role Overview:
An opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager to join the Contracts team, reporting directly to the Contracts Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing multiple projects from inception to completion across the UK, including the design and delivery of HVAC&R systems.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Design HVAC&R systems independently and in collaboration with the in-house design team.
• Take full responsibility for all contractual and commercial aspects of assigned projects.
• Prepare and submit quotations for HVAC&R systems.
• Respond to tenders and requests for information in a timely and professional manner.
• Liaise with manufacturers and clients to select and specify appropriate equipment and materials in line with project requirements.
• Analyse and report on tender submissions prior to contract award.
• Monitor and control project costs to ensure commercial targets are achieved.
• Act as a client-facing representative, maintaining strong relationships and demonstrating expertise across HVAC disciplines.
• Manage multiple projects across the UK, from pre-start meetings through to final handover.
• Define project scope, activities, and programmes clearly and effectively.
• Maintain accurate project documentation in line with the company’s ISO 9001 quality management system.
• Provide leadership to installation teams, including site visits where required, and maintain regular communication with site personnel.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proven experience in HVAC&R project management.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical solutions.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative, with excellent attention to detail.
• Capable of managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and digital).
• Strong organisational and time management abilities.
• Positive, proactive, and professional attitude.
• Commercial awareness and understanding of project financials.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety and environmental regulations.
• Experience in HVAC&R system design.
• Process-driven mindset.
• Proficient in IT systems, including Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and mobile devices.
• The Ideal candidate will have experience of design/project management of one or more of the below mechanical disciplines:

Desirable Experience;

• Candidates should have experience in the design and/or project management of one or more of the following mechanical disciplines:

• Heating / Plumbing
